The award ceremony of the 2025 Guangzhou Healthy Weight-Loss Challenge was held at the Tianhe Sports Center in Guangzhou on December 28.
2025 marks the first year of Guangzhou’s “Weight Management Year” campaign. As a key initiative to thoroughly implement the Healthy China Strategy and national requirements for the “Weight Management Year,” the 2025 Guangzhou Healthy Weight-Loss Challenge has effectively integrated nationwide fitness with public health, providing a robust platform for residents to develop healthy lifestyles.
The event was distinguished by strong inter-departmental collaboration, enthusiastic public participation, significant health outcomes, and innovative operational mechanisms. Guided by the effective framework of “government leadership, expert support, social coordination, and public engagement,” the challenge attracted 20,790 participants from across the city.
At the ceremony, event-specific data and national physical fitness monitoring results were released. Over 60 days, participants who completed the challenge achieved an average weight loss of 2.4 kilograms and a 1.4 percentage-point reduction in body fat percentage. More than 10,000 participants established personal health records, and over 2,000 received one-on-one expert consultations, demonstrating the resounding success of “promoting weight loss through competition” and “boosting health through participation”.
The venue featured trendy sports zones and professional health areas, where residents actively engaged in interactive activities. Through Zumba sessions, pickleball competitions, physical fitness assessments, and nutritional counseling, participants enjoyed fun-filled experiences while gaining scientific fitness knowledge and skills, significantly enhancing their health literacy.
In line with the goals of the Weight Management Year and national fitness initiatives, the organizing committee will further leverage the advantages of multi-departmental collaboration, integrate social resources, and provide professional services. By focusing on weight management, the committee aims to build a stronger coalition for health promotion, establish long-term weight management mechanisms, and transition scientific weight loss from a “event highlight” to a “regular service”.
Additionally, the committee will optimize the event operation system by upgrading the “individual + team + community” competition model to enhance participant experience, refine incentive mechanisms, expand social collaboration, and attract more stakeholders. These efforts will foster a sustainable event ecosystem and popular science framework, contributing to the development of Healthy China and Healthy Guangzhou.
