Recently, the Guangdong Provincial Health Commission and the Guangdong Provincial Medical Products Administration issued the Notice on Issuing the List of the 4th Batch of Designated Medical Institutions for the “Hong Kong-Macao Drugs and Medical Devices Connect” in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, adding 27 medical institutions including Zhujiang Hospital of Southern Medical University to the list of designated hospitals.
In August this year, the provincial health commission launched the application work for the 4th batch of designated medical institutions under the “Hong Kong-Macao Drugs and Medical Devices Connect” and organized the review of the qualifications of the first three batches of designated medical institutions. After acceptance and evaluation by mainland cities in the Greater Bay Area and review by the provincial health commission, 27 new hospitals were confirmed as the 4th batch of designated hospitals, 44 hospitals passed the qualification review, and 1 hospital was removed from the list of designated hospitals due to suspension of business.
The Notice requires that the competent administrative departments of relevant prefecture-level and above cities should strengthen the supervision and administration of designated medical institutions. All designated medical institutions should further deepen cooperation with Hong Kong and Macao in medical and health services, strengthen clinical research and the application and import of Hong Kong and Macao drugs and medical devices, continuously improve the relevant systems of the “Hong Kong-Macao Drugs and Medical Devices Connect”, ensure that imported Hong Kong and Macao drugs and medical devices are only used for specific medical purposes of the medical institution, and guarantee the safety of drug and medical device use.
Guangdong Province has officially implemented the “Hong Kong-Macao Drugs and Medical Devices Connect” since 2021, and has released three batches of lists of designated medical institutions in August 2021, February 2023 and September 2024 respectively. Up to now, the number of designated medical institutions under the “Hong Kong-Macao Drugs and Medical Devices Connect” has reached 71, with 140 varieties of Hong Kong and Macao drugs and medical devices approved for import and use (63 drugs and 77 medical devices), benefiting about 17,000 patients.
