Unlocking New Scenarios for Documentary Communication: China’s First Integrated Documentary-Tourism & Accommodation Project Settles in Jinwan

Recently, “Documentary China · Documentary Salon”, China’s first public welfare cultural communication project that deeply integrates documentary content with tourism and accommodation scenarios, was launched at Huaye Jianguo Hotel in Jinwan District, Zhuhai.

Guided by the Development Research Center of the National Radio and Television Administration, the project has brought together a number of domestic mainstream media including the New Vision Center of Radio and Television, China Documentary Network, Guangdong Satellite TV of Guangdong Radio and Television Station, and Zhuhai Media Group, as well as documentary production institutions and resources of renowned directors. It aims to build an innovative platform for documentary industry connection, cultural experience and brand communication.

It is reported that “Documentary China · Documentary Salon” will explore new paths for documentary communication and new forms of integrated cultural and tourism development through the “content + space + industry” integration model. It pioneered the “accommodation equals movie viewing” model at Huaye Jianguo Hotel by comprehensively upgrading the audio-visual system of hotel guest rooms. Guests can conveniently order and watch dozens of selected documentary masterpieces such as The Palace MuseumHexi Corridor and The Taste of Old Cantonese. Meanwhile, the public spaces of the hotel will regularly host activities such as documentary screenings, director salons and industry seminars, making it a physical “salon” for industry exchanges and public aesthetic education.

He Haokun, head of the Director Studio at the Documentary Center of Zhongshan Radio and Television Station, stated that the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is a “treasure trove of topics” for documentary creation. The launch of the salon provides a gathering place for the “documentary community”, which will help strengthen regional cooperation and allow documentaries to showcase local characteristics like a “city photo album”. Xia Meng, Vice President of the China Documentary Association, commented that this initiative has brought documentaries from the realm of “highbrow art” into people’s daily lives, especially building a new communication bridge between young audiences and audiences in Hong Kong and Macao.

Yuan Jie, Deputy General Manager of Zhuhai Huaye Investment (Group) Co., Ltd., said that Jinwan District has a solid foundation in the cultural industry. The settlement of the salon here can not only leverage Zhuhai’s geographical advantage as a gateway to the Greater Bay Area to expand its influence, but also provide a stage for documentary filmmakers to showcase their works. It will exert a positive impact on the development of the cultural industry in the Greater Bay Area and the promotion of urban cultural brands.
