Recently, centering on the theme of “Fire Safety for All, Life First”, Dengfeng Sub-district organized a fire safety publicity and drill activity for rental properties in Hengfu Community. Integrating scenario simulation, hands-on training and responsibility advocacy, the activity effectively enhanced the fire prevention awareness and self-rescue & mutual rescue capabilities of residents in the area, building a solid fire safety barrier for the community. More than 80 rental property managers and residents participated in the event.
As one of the sub-districts in Yuexiu District with a high concentration of rental properties, Dengfeng Sub-district has always adhered to the concept of “Safety First, Prevention First”. The drill simulated a fire caused by electrical short-circuit in a rental property. With “thick smoke” filling the scene, members of the Taojin North Community Mini Fire Station and rental property managers responded quickly, guiding residents to cover their mouths and noses with wet towels and evacuate along the escape routes in a bent posture in an orderly manner. All participants safely reached the designated area within 3 minutes. Subsequently, mini fire station members entered the scene to conduct initial fire disposal and checked to confirm no one was stranded. Firefighters from Hengfu Fire and Rescue Station, based on the actual drill situation, emphasized key reminders to residents, such as “Anti-theft windows must be equipped with escape exits” and “Do not pile debris in corridors”.
This activity deeply integrated knowledge explanation with skill practice, setting up three key sessions: evacuation drill, equipment training and fire-fighting experience. Staff from the Emergency Management Office provided on-site detailed explanations on the correct use of fire extinguishers and fire smoke masks, highlighting the four-word operation mantra “Lift, Pull, Aim, Squeeze”, and popularized essential safety knowledge including “Cut off power first in case of electrical fire” and “Cover the pot to put out oil pan fire”. A total of over 100 copies of fire safety publicity materials were distributed on site.
In the subsequent hands-on training session, more than 20 residents took turns to practice using fire extinguishers. Staff provided one-on-one guidance and corrections to ensure all participants mastered the operational essentials and improved their skills in putting out initial-stage fires.
At the end of the activity, combining real-life cases, the staff clarified the primary responsibility for fire safety in rental properties. They reminded landlords to conduct regular inspections of electrical circuits and maintain fire-fighting facilities, and required tenants not to arbitrarily alter the building structure or block escape routes. The person in charge of the relevant property management stated that taking this drill as an opportunity, they will cooperate with the sub-district and community to deepen the “door-to-door inspection” of fire safety, focusing on rectifying potential hazards such as aging electrical circuits and blocked passages, to jointly safeguard the safety of the community.
The successful holding of this activity is a vivid practice of Dengfeng Sub-district’s initiative to promote fire safety publicity “into communities and households”. Moving forward, the sub-district will continue to take key nodes such as the “Fire Safety Month” as the starting point, carry out diverse safety publicity and education activities under the “One Sub-district, One Brand” model, continuously improve the overall fire safety literacy of residents, foster a sound community atmosphere where “Everyone Talks about Safety and Everyone Can Respond to Emergencies”, and inject Dengfeng’s strength into consolidating the foundation for the safe development of the area.
