Recently, taking the lead, the Shenzhen Development and Reform Commission organized some deputies to the Municipal People’s Congress and members of the Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Together with relevant responsible persons from the Working Committee of Deputies to the Municipal People’s Congress, the Proposal Committee of the Municipal CPPCC, and the Supervision Office of the Municipal People’s Government, they conducted a special inspection and research tour at two major cultural facility projects: the Bay Area Book City (“Eye of the Bay Area”) and the Shenzhen Bay Cultural Plaza.
As a composite cultural ecosystem of the world’s largest physical book city, the Bay Area Book City’s design concept of “digital-real integration + spatial reconstruction + cross-border business formats” won high praise from the attending deputies and committee members. They stated that the project has reshaped new scenarios for urban cultural and tourism development, demonstrated a new paradigm for immersive technological experiences, and established a new benchmark for cultural IP in the Greater Bay Area. Through on-site inspections, the deputies and committee members deeply felt the fruitful achievements of Shenzhen’s cultural development and the vigorous vitality of the nationwide reading ecosystem through the window of the Bay Area Book City, and put forward suggestions on deepening the educational functions of the venue and building a golden corridor for cultural and tourism in the Bay Area.
Adhering to the design concept of “openness, quality, and growth”, the Shenzhen Bay Cultural Plaza project strives to create four functional areas covering design and art exhibitions, the Future Design Academy, multi-cultural spaces, and cross-border social communities. The deputies and committee members spoke highly of this cultural complex, believing that it not only highlights the unique charm of Shenzhen as a “City of Design”, but also effectively stimulates the public’s enthusiasm for participating in design learning. They also put forward constructive opinions on the project’s operation ideas and the further exertion of its social benefits.
