Golden pomelo is a specialty agricultural product of Meizhou, Guangdong.
On November 7, 2025, shortly after the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, General Secretary Xi Jinping visited the Nanfu Rujian Pomelo Planting Base in Yanyang Town, Meizhou, Guangdong. The hillsides were covered with lush pomelo trees, with golden and plump fruits hanging on the branches, emitting a sweet fragrance.
General Secretary Xi walked into the pomelo orchard, exchanged cordially with the villagers, inquired about the harvest and discussed development together. Learning that the Rujian pomelos had a bumper harvest and smooth sales channels this year, he happily sent his blessings, “I wish the villagers’ life as sweet and wonderful as Rujian pomelos”.
To advance Chinese modernization, we must unremittingly consolidate the foundation of agriculture and promote all-around rural vitalization. General Secretary Xi Jinping has always cared about rural areas and farmers.

On April 30, 2025, while chairing a forum on economic and social development in some provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities during the 15th Five-Year Plan period, the General Secretary pointed out, “We should conduct in-depth research on effective measures to optimize regional layout, promote coordinated regional development, consolidate and expand the achievements of poverty alleviation, advance all-around rural vitalization and integrated urban-rural development, and accelerate the modernization of agriculture and rural areas, so as to steadily increase the income of urban and rural residents”.
In May 2025, during his inspection in Henan, the General Secretary emphasized, “We should strengthen the protection and development of cultivated land, shoulder the responsibility for food security, extend the industrial chain of modern agriculture, and drive all-around rural vitalization through integrated urban-rural development”.
In October 2025, the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China deliberated and adopted the “Suggestions of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on Formulating the 15th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development”. The “Suggestions” made a special chapter on accelerating the modernization of agriculture and rural areas, clarifying the strategic tasks and policy measures for the development of agriculture and rural areas during the 15th Five-Year Plan period.

Since 2025, China has successively issued the “All-Around Rural Revitalization Plan (2024-2027)” and the “Plan for Accelerating the Construction of a Strong Agricultural Country (2024-2035)”, formulating roadmaps and construction plans for the phased goals of implementing the rural revitalization strategy and building a strong agricultural country. Under the coordinated guidance of a series of plans, the modernization of China’s agriculture and rural areas has advanced steadily, and rural revitalization has shown vigorous vitality.
At the end of 2025, good news came again from the fields of hope!
Data released by the National Bureau of Statistics showed that in 2025, China’s grain output continued to maintain a high-level increase. The total grain output reached 1.4298 trillion jin, an increase of 1.2% over the previous year; the per mu grain output increased by 4.4 kilograms, a growth of 1.1%.
Stabilizing grain production has stabilized the “basic foundation” and “ballast stone” of rural revitalization; and the comprehensive promotion of rural revitalization has provided stronger momentum and broader space for the sustained increase of grain output.
At present, the comprehensive mechanization rate of crop plowing, sowing and harvesting in China has exceeded 75%, and the contribution rate of agricultural scientific and technological progress has exceeded 63%. There are more than 100,000 large-scale agricultural product processing enterprises and more than 2 million farmers’ cooperatives nationwide. Yan’an apples, Datong chrysanthemums, Zhashui edible fungi, Yunnan coffee… Rural characteristic industries have become “happy industries” benefiting the people.

The concept that “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets” has taken deep root in people’s hearts with the advancement of rural revitalization. By carrying out comprehensive environmental improvement, Wuzhong District of Suzhou, Jiangsu has achieved “smooth rivers, clear water, green banks and beautiful scenery”, bringing new vitality to ancient villages; relying on volcanic hot springs and ancient town charm, Tengchong, Yunnan has blazed a path where ecological protection and rural tourism complement each other… In today’s China, livable and prosperous harmonious and beautiful villages can be seen everywhere.
For a nation to rejuvenate, its rural areas must be revitalized.
Looking down on China, pieces of fields full of hope and villages undergoing quiet transformations connect points into lines and weave lines into a picture, jointly forming a magnificent picture of rural revitalization in contemporary China.
