To closely align with the implementation of the national “Weight Management Year” campaign, actively respond to the Macao SAR Government’s Healthy Macao Blueprint policy, and seize the opportunity of Macao’s participation in hosting the 15th National Games, the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) has launched a series of “Vibrant Campus” initiatives starting from the 2024/2025 academic year. Six measures have been rolled out at both student and school levels.

At the student level, the initiatives include increasing the average daily physical activity time to 40 minutes, establishing physical fitness standards and small tasks, and setting up student physical fitness score sheets. At the school level, the bureau provides subsidies for the purchase of sports equipment, launches new funding for inter-school competitions, and introduces the Vibrant Campus Recognition Scheme. These efforts aim to strengthen the sports atmosphere on campus and foster a regular and sustainable “Vibrant Campus” culture.

On December 3rd, DSEDJ held the 2024/2025 Vibrant Campus Recognition Scheme Award Ceremony and Sharing Session to commend schools that have performed outstandingly and met the targets in promoting campus sports, healthy lifestyles, and diversified development through their participation in the scheme. Over 100 attendees were present, including the Director of DSEDJ Mr. Gong Zhiming, Deputy Directors Mr. Ding Shaoxiong, Ms. Ruan Peixian and Mr. Wong Ka Kei, representatives from the Macao Chinese Education Association, Macao Catholic Schools Association and Macao Public Service Education Association, as well as members of the Education Committee, Youth Affairs Committee, Teaching Staff Professional Committee and school representatives.

In his speech, Director Gong Zhiming stated that DSEDJ has built consensus among the education and youth sectors, and will leverage the professional strengths of schools and teachers to jointly safeguard students’ physical and mental health. He emphasized that sports not only enhance students’ physical health, but also serve as an important channel for cultivating their psychological resilience and social skills, and have a positive impact on improving learning efficiency. DSEDJ will support schools in normalizing sports activities through multiple channels, create a dynamic campus atmosphere, enable students to enjoy the fun of sports, and promote their holistic physical and mental development.

During the event, more than 60 qualified school departments were awarded the “Vibrant Campus” certificates of recognition. Representatives from the Macao Fong Chong School and the University of Macao Affiliated School of Applied Sciences shared their practical experience and implementation results of the “Vibrant Campus” initiatives on site.

Looking ahead, DSEDJ will continue to optimize the “Vibrant Campus Recognition Scheme”, actively integrate science and technology education resources, deepen inter-school collaboration, and promote the development of diversified student activities. These efforts will lay a solid foundation for building a healthy, positive, innovative and dynamic campus ecosystem, enhance the overall quality of Macao’s students, jointly create vibrant campuses, and cultivate a new generation with strong physical fitness, good moral character and a sense of social responsibility.
