Protecting Childlike Innocence, Ensuring Safe Journeys! Shaputou Community of Nanyuan Sub-district in Futian District Holds Children’s Council

Recently, Shaputou Community and Nanyuan Primary School held a “Protecting Childlike Innocence, Ensuring Safe Journeys” Children’s Council, putting forward 12 travel safety suggestions (6 in rectification plan) via home-school-community collaboration.

Recently, Shaputou Community of Nanyuan Sub-district in Futian District, in conjunction with Nanyuan Primary School, jointly organized a Children’s Council activity themed “Protecting Childlike Innocence, Ensuring Safe Journeys”.

Twenty student representatives from Nanyuan Primary School acted as “little council members”. Under the joint guidance of social workers, school teachers and volunteers, they put forward suggestions for the travel safety of children in the community and around the campus through group discussions, proposal sharing and other forms, injecting the power of childlike innocence into community governance via the school-community linkage mode.

The council was held at the Party-Mass Service Center of Shaputou Community. Social workers, Director Li, Director of Moral Education at Nanyuan Primary School, and the “little council members” sat around together, with the atmosphere being warm and orderly.

After in-depth discussions and voting, the activity finally formulated the Proposal on Improving Children’s Safe Travel Around Shaputou Community and Nanyuan Primary School, which includes 12 specific suggestions divided into four categories: “optimizing school-community transportation facilities, regulating parking order in the surrounding areas, strengthening safety publicity and education, and improving the home-school-community guardianship mechanism”.

Among them, 6 feasible suggestions such as “adding speed bumps and child-specific signs at the zebra crossing at the school gate” and “repairing street lamps on the connecting roads between the school and the community and installing reflective warning stickers” have been included in the recent rectification plan.

Zeng Weijia, Secretary of the Party Working Committee of Shaputou Community, stated that this school-community co-organized Children’s Council is an important practice to implement the “home-school-community collaborative governance”. It not only enables students to learn to pay attention to safety issues around them and exercise their expression and thinking abilities, but also builds a platform for the community and the school to listen to students’ voices and optimize the education environment.

By linking up with Nanyuan Primary School, children’s council discussions are more in line with the real needs of students, and the school is also deeply involved in community governance, forming a joint force for safety co-construction. Next, the community and the school will regularly communicate on the progress of proposal implementation, invite “little council members” to participate in the evaluation of rectification effects, and continuously improve the safety environment around the school and the community.
