As the 2026 New Year’s Day approaches, Guangzhou Metro informed reporters that, taking into account the recent fine weather and citizens’ travel demand during the holiday, the daily passenger flow of the metro network is expected to exceed 10 million on the eve of New Year’s Day (December 31, 2025) and New Year’s Day itself (January 1, 2026). To this end, Guangzhou Metro has made comprehensive arrangements for holiday operation organization in terms of transportation management, passenger service, and equipment support, striving to ensure citizens a safe and smooth travel experience for a joyful New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day holiday.
During the New Year’s Day holiday, Guangzhou Metro will meet citizens’ travel demand by extending operation hours, increasing the number of trains in service, deploying empty trains at key stations, and adding more volunteers and on-site maintenance staff. To enhance transportation flexibility, the metro network will arrange a maximum of 42 standby trains every day during the holiday, which will be put into operation in crowded sections in a timely manner according to actual passenger flow.
On December 31, 2025, the operation service hours of Guangzhou Metro network will be extended by 1.5 hours. Lines 1, 2, 3 (including Line 3 North Extension), 5, 6, 7, 8, as well as the east and west sections of Line 12 will have an additional 0.5-hour extension.
On January 1, 2026 (New Year’s Day) and January 3 (the last day of the holiday), Lines 1, 2, 3 (including Line 3 North Extension), 5, 7, the west section of Line 12 (Xunfenggang – Guangzhou Gymnasium) and Line 22 will extend their service by 1 hour.
On January 3, 2026, Lines 14 and 21 will adopt the high-capacity operation diagram to ease the passenger flow of students returning to school. Short-trip trains running from Jiahewanggang to Taiping will be added on Line 14 from 14:00 to 21:30. It should be noted that due to the adjustment of transportation capacity, the schedules of the express and local trains on Lines 14 and 21 will be adjusted accordingly on December 28 and 31, 2025, as well as during the New Year’s Day holiday. From 12:00 to the end of operation on December 31, 2025, and from 13:20 to the end of operation from January 1 to 3, 2026, the express trains on Line 14 will be adjusted to run as local trains.
