——2025 Guangzhou Primary and Secondary School Students Natural Observation Education Exchange, Sharing and Exhibition Activity Successfully Held
Recently, the 2025 Guangzhou Primary and Secondary School Students Natural Observation Education Exchange, Sharing and Exhibition Activity, sponsored by the Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Education and undertaken by Guangzhou Xiehe School, was successfully held. The activity was carried out in two phases: the final of natural notes and bird model creation was held on November 22, and the on-site bird-watching competition was held on November 29. More than 1,000 primary and secondary school students from districts across the city and schools in the Greater Bay Area gathered at the campus of Xiehe School and Liuhua Lake Park. They observed in nature and grew through learning, demonstrating the good spirit of teenagers in our city who love nature, advocate science and protect the ecology.
Through various forms including bird-watching practice, natural note creation, science popularization video production, bird model making and photography, the activity guided students to go deep into nature, observe carefully and think independently, further stimulating teenagers’ attention to the ecological environment and their awareness of protection. Students used cameras to record the movement tracks of birds, brushes to depict the various forms of creatures in wetlands, and videos to broadcast their insights into the harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, fully showing the scientific inquiry spirit and humanistic care of students in Guangzhou in the new era.
Learn from Nature, Cultivate Scientific Spirit Through Observation
With “natural observation” as the main line, this activity set up five competition items such as natural note creation, bird model making and on-site bird-watching, focusing on the combination of theory and practice and the integration of knowledge and emotion. In the garden of Xiehe School, students carefully observed the morphological characteristics of animals and plants; in the creation session, they recorded the beauty of nature with brushes and shaped the verve of birds with dexterous hands. The whole process was not only a competition of skills, but also an interdisciplinary comprehensive training of scientific literacy and aesthetic ability, reflecting Guangzhou’s practical orientation of adhering to “learning by doing and understanding by thinking” in science education.
Focus on Bird Protection, Convey the Concept of Ecological Civilization
The activity was closely integrated with the current special campaign in Guangzhou to protect birds and crack down on the illegal hunting and trafficking of birds, integrating the popularization of bird knowledge and the cultivation of protection awareness into the whole process of the competition. In his speech at the opening ceremony, the relevant person in charge of the Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Education called on primary and secondary school students in the city to “actively publicize the laws and regulations on bird protection, timely stop unfriendly behaviors, and strive to be young guardians of wildlife protection”. By observing bird habits, making bird models and participating in bird-watching competitions, students deepened their understanding of bird diversity and enhanced their sense of responsibility and mission to protect wild animals and guard the green home.
Build a Display Platform, Empower Students’ All-Round Development
The natural observation activity has become an important brand of science education and ecological education in primary and secondary schools in Guangzhou. In recent years, Guangzhou has continuously built a natural education system of “school-based + off-campus” and “theory + practice”. Through teacher training, curriculum construction and activity innovation, it has promoted the in-depth and solid development of natural education for teenagers. This activity not only provided a stage for students to show their talents, but also sowed the seeds of “curiosity, responsibility and dream” in their hearts, laying a solid foundation for them to grow into new people of the era with scientific literacy, ecological awareness and humanistic feelings.
