The extension section of Guangzhou Metro Line 22 (Chentougang – Fangcun) is set to open before the end of the month, and will operate in conjunction with the initial section (Panyu Square – Chentougang), establishing a rapid rail transit connection between Liwan and Panyu districts. On December 11, reporters visited Fangcun Station and Xilang Station, and also took a trial ride on the extension section of Line 22.

With a total length of 29.7 kilometers and 8 stations (including 4 interchange stations), Line 22 is positioned as a South Railway Station Express Line with a speed of 160 kilometers per hour. The initial section of Line 22 (Panyu Square – Chentougang) was put into operation on March 31, 2022, and the extension section (Chentougang – Fangcun) will commence operation before the end of the month.
A relevant person in charge of Guangzhou Metro Group stated that after the full-line operation of Line 22, the entire journey from Fangcun Station to Panyu Square Station will take approximately 27 minutes, enabling a rapid rail transit link between Panyu and Liwan. It will effectively connect core business districts and comprehensive transportation hubs such as Panyu Square, Guangzhou South Railway Station, Guanggang New Town, and Baietan, increase the density of rail transit in western Guangzhou, and further optimize the transportation connection in the Guangzhou South Railway Station hub area.
Running from south to north, the extension section of Line 22 includes four stations: Nanpuxi, Nanjiao, Xilang, and Fangcun. It will operate in through-service with the initial section, adopting a single route of “Panyu Square – Fangcun” with a stop-at-every-station mode. During peak hours on workdays, 13 trains will be put into operation, with a headway of approximately 4 minutes and 50 seconds. “Currently, it takes about 40 minutes with one transfer to travel from Fangcun Station to Guangzhou South Railway Station by metro; after the extension section opens, it will only take 17 minutes to reach there quickly,” introduced a relevant person in charge of the Station Service Center of Guangdong Intercity Operation Company.
