The Hong Kong Government announced today that the validity period of the unused balance under the 2024-25 Electricity Subsidy Scheme and Electricity Relief Scheme will be extended by one year, from December 31 this year to December 31 next year.
All unused balances will be rolled over to subsequent months to cover electricity charges shown on the bills of the same account until the end of 2026 or the closure of the account, whichever comes first. The unused balance will be clearly specified on the electricity bills of eligible users.
The Government stated that the decision to extend the validity period of unused balances by one year is made in consideration of the fact that many residents have not yet fully utilized the electricity subsidies or relief funds disbursed to them. The Government will review the need for a further extension in light of future developments.
