The Management of Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, Hong Kong Has Been Taken Over by a Professional Team

On the 6th, Ms. Alice Mak Mei-kuen, Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government, met with the media regarding the management of Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po. She stated that on the same day, the Lands Tribunal of the HKSAR handed down a ruling on the application submitted by the HKSAR Government, officially approving the dissolution of the existing Management Committee of the Owners’ Corporation of Wang Fuk Court and appointing Hop On Management Limited, a subsidiary of Chinachem Group, as the manager.

Ms. Alice Mak indicated that the HKSAR Government welcomes the decision of the Lands Tribunal, and this ruling marks that the management of Wang Fuk Court will be taken over by a professional team.

She noted that the court also recognized that the current Management Committee is indeed limited in terms of capabilities, while Hop On Management Limited possesses ample experience and resources to provide appropriate assistance. With long-standing experience and sufficient resources in Hong Kong’s property management industry, Hop On Management Limited can mobilize rapidly in emergencies, handle the current complex and pressing estate management affairs in a systematic and professional manner, and effectively safeguard the legitimate rights, interests and well-being of all owners and residents.

Ms. Alice Mak emphasized that the manager will only temporarily perform the functions of the former Management Committee and handle estate management affairs on behalf of the Owners’ Corporation. The Owners’ Corporation, as a legal person established in accordance with the law, continues to exist. The relevant application will not affect the final decision-making power of Wang Fuk Court’s owners on important estate management matters; all major decisions must be made by the owners through convening owners’ general meetings in strict accordance with relevant regulations, so as to ensure that the owners’ rights are fully respected.

She reaffirmed that the manager will not charge any fees to the owners of Wang Fuk Court for this appointment, and Nina Wang Charitable Management Limited has pledged to donate a total of HK$10 million to cover the daily operation expenses of the manager.

In addition, to ensure the orderly progress of all work, the Home Affairs Department of the HKSAR Government has set up a dedicated follow-up team to collaborate closely with Hop On Management Limited and provide necessary support. In accordance with the court order, Hop On Management Limited is required to submit a monthly report to the HKSAR Government.
