Integration of Mountains and Waters with Fully Connected Trails: Phase II of the Greenway around Shenzhen Reservoir Officially Opens – Luohu District’s “Eight Parks Linkage” Fully Realized

On Dec 25, Phase II of Shenzhen Reservoir Greenway fully opened in Luohu, linking 8 parks together. The 2.2km trail connects scenic greenways, highlights water culture and offers ecological leisure space for citizens.

Shenzhen residents now have a new route for leisure strolls and cycling! On December 25, the main line of the Greenway around Shenzhen Reservoir (Phase II) was fully connected, marking the complete linkage of the southbound greenway and cycling path of Shenzhen Reservoir, which connects the renowned Taojinshan Greenway and Wutong Greenway. Meanwhile, the connection of the project’s main line also signifies the full realization of Luohu District’s “Eight Parks Linkage” initiative, which strings the eight major parks into an ecological chain, integrating premium ecological resources into the urban area and making ecological wellbeing tangible and accessible for citizens.

In recent years, in accordance with the work deployment of the Overall Implementation Plan for the Planning and Construction of Shenzhen Greenway Network, Luohu District has fully leveraged its ecological advantage of “half mountains and waters, half urban landscape”, built distinctive greenway brands, and focused on constructing a high-quality 30-kilometer greenway loop around Shenzhen Reservoir. This loop mainly includes the completed Wutong Greenway, Taojinshan Greenway, Cuihu Culture and Sports Park, Greenway around Shenzhen Reservoir (Phase I), and the newly connected Greenway around Shenzhen Reservoir (Phase II).

The Greenway around Shenzhen Reservoir (Phase I) made a stunning debut in January this year, connecting the Taojinshan Greenway on the north side of Shenzhen Reservoir and the second-floor slow track of Dawang Bridge. By the end of this year, Phase II has perfectly completed the loop, linking the Wutong Greenway and Cuihu Culture and Sports Park, and fully eliminating the disconnected sections on the south side of Shenzhen Reservoir. Stretching 2.2 kilometers, this newly connected greenway starts from the southern end of Wutong Greenway, passes by Donghu Park, the Right Auxiliary Dam of Shenzhen Reservoir and Donghu Hotel, connects the Liancui Bridge at the entrance of Cuihu Culture and Sports Park, and finally joins the Taojinshan Greenway. With the opening of this greenway, travel from Wutong Greenway to Taojinshan Greenway, and from Donghu Park to Cuihu Culture and Sports Park no longer requires a detour via Aiguo Road. It has achieved a convenient and comfortable seamless connection of greenways, solving the long-standing problem of disconnected greenway sections.

Centered on the theme of “Never Forget the Source of Drinking Water”, this greenway offers views of the stunning scenery of Shenzhen Reservoir, tells the history of the Dongshen Water Supply Project, and reinforces the cultural memory of the reservoir as the “life-giving water and politically significant water” for the city. The project has opened up the area of the Right Auxiliary Dam of Shenzhen Reservoir to the public, which not only achieves greenway connectivity, but also allows citizens to experience the water supply culture up close.

Highlight 2: Huguang Tower – A Poetic Landmark Where Flowing Clouds Mirror the Blue Waves

Standing as a commanding height along the greenway, Huguang Tower derives its name from the poetic concept of “picturesque lakes and mountains” and takes inspiration from the flowing clouds in the sky. Equipped with a vertical elevator inside, the tower allows visitors to reach the top effortlessly without climbing stairs; alternatively, visitors can stroll along the double spiral footpath on the exterior and enjoy changing scenery at every step.
