Six Leisure Enterprises Co-organize; Authorities Urge Safety Precautions
Two New Year’s Eve Concerts Expected to Draw 10,000 Attendees
Co-hosted by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) together with MGM, Wynn Macau Resort, Sands China Ltd., Melco Resorts & Entertainment, SJM Resorts, and Galaxy Entertainment Group, the 2025 Macau New Year’s Eve Countdown Concert will be held simultaneously with IC’s 2025 Taipa New Year’s Eve Countdown Party at Sai Van Lake Square and Taipa Village tonight. Residents are reminded to prioritize safety and avoid overindulgence while participating in the events.
At 12:00 noon yesterday, representatives from the organizing, co-organizing, and supporting units, along with numerous artists, held a worship ceremony at Sai Van Lake Square to pray for the smooth and safe running of the events and celebrate the New Year with residents. Attendees included Cheng Kai Meng, Deputy Director of IC; Ivan Wan, Vice President of Event Promotion and Entertainment Planning, Corporate Brand Development and Marketing Department of SJM Resorts; Sandy Ling, Assistant Vice President of Brand Planning of MGM; Patsy Leung, Assistant Vice President of Public Relations and Media Relations of Galaxy Entertainment Group; Keith Chan, Director of Brand and Advertising of Wynn Macau and Wynn Palace; Sonia Ip, Director of Brand and Resort Marketing of Sands China Ltd.; and Patsy Lai, Director of Corporate Communications of Melco Resorts & Entertainment.
Cheng Kai Meng stated that the countdown events are expected to attract approximately 10,000 residents and tourists to the venues. If attendance exceeds capacity, the police will coordinate to arrange some audiences to join the countdown in peripheral areas, with the number of off-site participants yet to be estimated. Regarding the event budget, the costs of the Macau New Year’s Eve Countdown Concert are jointly borne by the six major leisure enterprises, with the government also covering part of the expenses, though the total budget is still being finalized. The budget for the Taipa New Year’s Eve Countdown Party, fully funded by the authorities, is around MOP 960,000.
No Fireworks in the Countdown Segment
When asked about the absence of fireworks in the countdown segment of the Macau New Year’s Eve Countdown Concert, Cheng Kai Meng clarified that fireworks have never been part of the countdown events. Previous misunderstandings may have arisen from stage effects displayed at the Macau Tower. This year, stage effects will adopt a minimalist approach, with the primary focus on welcoming the New Year.
The 2025 Macau New Year’s Eve Countdown Concert will take place at Sai Van Lake Square from 10:00 p.m. tonight to 00:10 a.m. tomorrow. Renowned Hong Kong singer Panther Chan and popular rock band Dear Jane will headline the show, while local artists including Soler, To Chun Wai, Au Ieng Yat Wa, Lam Ching Wai, Yan Man Fong, Thetiredeyes, and B Kee will perform in succession, delivering a joyful New Year’s Eve celebration through diverse musical styles. To allow residents across Macau to join the celebration, large screens will live-stream the concert at Senado Square and Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre. The event will also be broadcast live on TDM’s channels (TDM Ou Mun and TDM Macau Satellite Channel), TDM website, TDM APP, Macau Radio, and TDM’s WeChat Channel.
Venue admission for the Macau New Year’s Eve Countdown Concert will open at 8:00 p.m. tonight. The audience area consists of standing room only, with limited capacity available on a first-come, first-served basis. If the queue becomes excessively long, admission may be opened earlier based on actual crowd conditions. To ensure the safe and orderly conduct of the event, crowd control measures will be implemented on-site. Once the venue reaches full capacity, no additional audience members will be allowed entry. Large items are prohibited, and no storage services will be provided on-site; all attendees must pass through security checks before entering.
To facilitate the event, attendees must enter Sai Van Lake Square via the entrance on Avenida Dr. Stanley Ho and exit through the lower level of the square. During the event period, some parking spaces around Sai Van Lake Square will be closed. From 7:00 p.m. tonight to 1:00 a.m. tomorrow, the police will implement traffic restrictions and road closures (excluding buses, authorized vehicles, and emergency service vehicles). Existing bus stops near the Macau Tower will be temporarily suspended, and residents may use the temporary bus stop located on Rua do Lago Sai Van adjacent to the Fire Services Bureau Headquarters. Information counters, first-aid stations, and multiple mobile toilets will be available on-site at Sai Van Lake Square.
Taipa Party Features Exotic Flavors
The 2025 Taipa New Year’s Eve Countdown Party will kick off at 9:00 p.m. tonight at Taipa Village. Headlined by Hong Kong singer Karen Tong, who will perform a selection of classic hits, the event will also feature performances by local music acts including Qingyuan, Macau People Band, Bossa Eva, and João Gomes & Band. Additionally, Kurt Guterres and the Macau Indian Cultural Association, Macau Filipino Dance Troupe, Myanmar Art Troupe, and Vietnam Art Troupe will showcase a mix of modern and traditional song and dance performances, complemented by a magic show by magician Fung Siu Hang.
From 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., cultural booths run by Macau’s Filipino, Indian, Myanmar, and Vietnamese communities will be set up, displaying traditional costumes, travel information, local snacks, and beverages with distinct exotic charm. Special traffic control measures will be enforced around Taipa Village from 8:00 p.m. tonight to 1:00 a.m. tomorrow, with restricted traffic access on Calçada do Quartel, Calçada do Carmo, Avenida de Carlos da Maia, Largo do Carmo, Rua da Libertade, and Rua de São Paulo. Parking spaces on Avenida de Carlos da Maia, Rua da Libertade, and Rua de São Paulo will be closed during the period, and drivers may park their vehicles at paid public parking lots near the event venue.
Both countdown events are free of charge. Organizers urge the public and tourists to take public transportation. Bus companies will increase the frequency of bus services to facilitate crowd dispersal after the events.
