Temporary Road Closures and Traffic Control Implemented at Multiple Locations in Macao and Taipa After 8:30 PM Tonight

New Year’s Eve countdown celebrations will be held at multiple venues across Macao tonight, which are expected to draw a large number of residents and tourists. Ma Chaoxiong, Commander of the Macao Police Station of the Public Security Police Force, stated that the police will deploy additional officers, including those from support units and other districts, to maintain order in public areas and around event venues, assist in implementing various traffic control measures, and ensure the safe and smooth running of the events.

Countdown and celebration events will take place at Sai Van Lake Square and the Cotai Strip area tonight, with a series of temporary road closures and traffic control measures to be put in place. Specifically, one traffic lane on Cotai Link Road near the flower beds on Cotai Strip will be partially accessible from 10:00 PM to 11:00 PM tonight. The section of Cotai Link Road adjacent to The Londoner, stretching from Shun Wing Avenue to Lotus Roundabout, and the section near The Parisian, from Lotus Roundabout to Cotai Link Road Roundabout, will be closed to traffic from 11:00 PM to 2:00 AM the next day. Following the closure of Cotai Link Road, partial traffic access will be allowed on sections of Shun Wing Avenue near The Londoner, Cotai City Avenue near The Parisian, Wing Chun Avenue near The Londoner, and Avenida da Baía de Nossa Senhora da Esperança near The Venetian from 11:00 PM to 2:00 AM the next day.

Fourteen Viewing Areas on Cotai Strip

In addition, 14 public viewing areas will be set up on Cotai Strip. After the implementation of traffic control, residents and tourists can enter these public viewing areas in an orderly manner to participate in the countdown under the guidance of the police. Members of the public are required to follow the instructions of on-site police officers, maintain order, show mutual courtesy, and take good care of the elderly and children accompanying them.

On the Macao Peninsula, after 8:30 PM on New Year’s Eve, Tower Street (the section between Avenida Dr Sun Yat-sen and Sai Van Lake Square), Sai Van Lake Street (near the Legislative Assembly), Rua Sul do Lago, Rua Oeste do Lago, Praça 25 de Abril, and Rua 25 de Abril will be closed and subject to temporary traffic measures, with the exception of access to the Tower Car Park, public buses, and authorized vehicles. At 11:00 PM, surrounding roads including Sai Van Lake Square, Tower Street, the junction of Avenida Dr Stanley Ho and Avenida da República, Avenida Panorâmica do Lago Sai Van, and Sai Van Bridge (from Taipa to Macao) will also be closed or subject to temporary traffic measures depending on the situation.

Medical and Firefighting Personnel Stationed at All Venues

Regarding the large-scale countdown events at multiple locations on New Year’s Eve, Zhang Zhihong, Deputy Director of the Fire Services Bureau, indicated that the fire department had held special meetings with the organizers of each event in advance to conduct fire safety technical analyses of the event plans, with a focus on verifying stage design, material selection, load-bearing standards, and power configurations. All projects must meet safety specifications before being approved for holding. The bureau will deploy personnel according to the events held at different locations. Taking Sai Van Lake Square as an example, more than 50 firefighters and 7 fire vehicles, including pumpers and ambulances, will be stationed there. Medical stations will be set up at all venues during the events, with firefighters, ambulances, and fire engines on standby to respond to emergencies.

In addition, multiple New Year’s Eve concerts will be held tonight. The police have reminded that given the expected large number of people crossing the border at Hengqin Port after the countdown events conclude, the police will implement crowd control measures at the port based on actual conditions. Residents can check the “Immigration Department Real-time Information Platform” in advance to choose a suitable port for crossing the border to ensure a smooth journey. They also reminded drivers not to park illegally, to comply with traffic rules, and not to drive under the influence of alcohol to ensure travel safety.
