MTR Corporation Limited (MTR) announced on the 5th that the joint venture established with a subsidiary of CRRC Corporation Limited (hereinafter referred to as “CRRC”) has successfully won the major contract for the Sydney Metro West Line project in New South Wales, Australia. The joint venture will be responsible for supplying a new generation of metro trains and related systems, as well as undertaking system commissioning and operation of the line.
MTR stated that the Sydney Metro West Line is a brand-new underground railway line, stretching 24 kilometers with 9 stations. It will connect Parramatta, a major commercial and residential hub in western Sydney, to the Sydney city center, with the target of commencing service in 2032. The infrastructure construction of the line will be undertaken by the New South Wales Government, while the joint venture will be responsible for a series of delivery-phase tasks, including the supply of new-generation driverless metro trains, signaling systems, communication and control systems, as well as system integration, testing and commissioning. Additionally, it will be in charge of the operation and maintenance of the line after it opens to traffic.

Leveraging its technologies and experience in building world-leading driverless metro systems both at home and abroad, the company will construct an advanced railway system for Sydney. Coupled with the close cooperation with MTR, CRRC is confident in successfully delivering the project and exceeding expectations of all parties.
Rooted in Hong Kong and oriented towards the international market, MTR’s subsidiary began operating the Sydney Metro Northwest Line in 2019, which was officially renamed the M1 Metro Northwest & Bankstown Line in August 2024.
