Recently, the Party-Mass Service Center and the Trade Union Federation of Tiantou Community in Shijing Sub-district launched the “Enjoy Gardening · Happy Company” parent-child gardening growth group activity based on gardening practices. The activity consisted of 6 sessions in total, attracting the participation of 10 families with a total of 105 person-times, and built an interesting platform for parent-child interaction, communication and common growth in the community.
At the beginning of the activity, social workers designed interesting ice-breaking games such as “Plant Squat” and “Plant Puzzle”, enabling parent-child families to learn the names and morphological characteristics of plants such as sunflowers, plectranthus amboinicus, wheatgrass and moss amid laughter and joy. In the plant science popularization session, combining with physical object displays, social workers explained the growth habits and planting skills of different plants in plain and easy-to-understand language, helping parent-child families quickly grasp basic gardening knowledge.
In the gardening practice session, social workers provided each family with materials including sunflower seeds, wheatgrass seeds, plectranthus amboinicus branches, moss, crushed stones and small ornaments, guiding parents and children to collaborate in completing tasks such as sowing, cutting and building miniature moss gardens. Parents and children had a clear division of labor and cooperated with great tacit understanding, exchanging planting experience from time to time. Under the patient guidance of social workers, batches of vibrant potted plants and exquisite and vivid moss gardens took shape one after another. Children carefully watered the plants, their eyes filled with anticipation for the growth of life. Finally, social workers also encouraged parent-child families to observe and record the growth changes of plants every week, tracking details such as the germination time of sunflowers, the growth height of wheatgrass and the leaf condition of plectranthus amboinicus in a meticulous manner.
Moving forward, Tiantou Community of Shijing Sub-district will continue to focus on family needs and parent-child growth, rely on the positional advantages of the Party-Mass Service Center, plan and carry out more innovative and richly contented benefit-oriented activities, continuously enrich the spiritual and cultural life of community families, weave a tight community happiness network with heartwarming services, and inject more vitality into building a harmonious and livable community environment.
