To carry forward the traditional virtues of the Chinese nation of respecting, honoring, and caring for the elderly, enrich the spiritual and cultural life of the elderly in the community, and enhance residents’ sense of happiness and community cohesion, recently, the Party-Mass Service Center (Cultural Station) of Dongshan Sub-district and the “Double Hundred Project” Social Work Station of Dongshan Sub-district jointly held a themed activity titled “Every Wish Comes True, Respecting the Elderly in Golden Autumn”, which was highly praised by neighbors.

With the auspicious-themed “Every Wish Comes True” (a homophonic play on the Chinese character for “persimmon”, which sounds the same as “everything”), the activity integrated traditional auspicious culture with handmade creation. Under the patient guidance of volunteers, the elderly enthusiastically participated in making handmade persimmon tree works. Through steps such as winding and shaping, they completed vivid and exquisite persimmon tree works one by one. The on-site atmosphere was warm and joyful. The elderly enhanced their communication through interaction and boosted their sense of accomplishment. The activity created a strong atmosphere of respecting the elderly, and further deepened the warmth among neighbors amid holiday blessings.

This activity conveyed the community’s care for the elderly in a vivid way and strengthened residents’ sense of belonging and happiness. In the future, Dongshan Sub-district will further integrate cultural venues and intangible cultural heritage resources, build a more distinctive community cultural ecology, and construct a cultural and happy home shared by people of all ages.
