Yesterday, the Phase II Project of The Seventh Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University (Shenzhen), a key livelihood project in Guangdong Province located in Guangming District, Shenzhen, was officially put into service. After the full opening of Phase II, the total number of beds in the hospital will reach 4,000, and the operation of Phase II will be opened in batches and gradually.

Since the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Shenzhen’s cumulative spending on nine major categories of livelihood programs has reached 1.6 trillion yuan, accounting for nearly 70% of the fiscal expenditure. Among this, more than 30,000 new beds have been added to medical and health institutions, close to the total number added during the 12th Five-Year Plan and 13th Five-Year Plan periods combined, making high-quality public service resources more inclusive, balanced, and accessible.

As a fruit of the “city-university strategic cooperation” between Shenzhen and Sun Yat-sen University, the Seventh Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University is the first directly affiliated hospital established by Sun Yat-sen University in Shenzhen, the university’s Seventh Clinical Medical College, and a key livelihood project introduced by Shenzhen.

With a total construction area of approximately 700,000 square meters, the Phase II Project is designed to integrate medical treatment, scientific research, teaching, prevention, and rehabilitation, achieving an overall “Five-in-One” layout. Once put into full operation, it will become the largest comprehensive research and teaching hospital in Shenzhen with the most complete range of clinical specialties.

“We have introduced the top medical teams from the entire Sun Yat-sen University system and national-level diagnosis and treatment technologies to the hospital. Relying on Phase II, we will also build the Sun Yat-sen University Shenzhen International Medical Center to provide medical security services for next year’s APEC meeting,” said Pan Yihang, Vice President of the Seventh Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. The hospital adopts a multi-center and cluster-based layout model, similar to the concept of hospitals-within-a-hospital. When patients enter the medical building, the scope of medical treatment will not exceed 50 meters, with registration, consultation, examinations, and medicine collection all within this 50-meter radius. Patients can also enjoy intelligent medical services through their mobile phones.

Recently, several hospital projects in Shenzhen have been put into operation one after another.

On December 25, the Phase II Project of Bao’an Central Hospital in Shenzhen was officially commissioned. With a structure of 24 floors above ground and 3 floors underground, the project has a total investment of over 690 million yuan. To further facilitate patients’ medical treatment, the project includes the construction of a pedestrian overpass spanning National Highway 107. After commissioning, the hospital’s total construction area will exceed 100,000 square meters, and the number of open beds will increase to 1,150, better meeting the diverse medical needs of patients.

On December 3, Dapeng Hospital of Shenzhen Second People’s Hospital, the first municipal public hospital in Shenzhen’s Dapeng New Area, opened. It will be developed into a general hospital featuring rehabilitation, with “half of its beds allocated for rehabilitation services”, which will greatly alleviate the difficulty of accessing rehabilitation services for Shenzhen residents. Covering an area of about 97,000 square meters with a total construction area of approximately 417,400 square meters, the hospital is designed to have 2,000 beds, which will be opened gradually, with 600 beds available in the first phase.

Since the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Shenzhen has completed a total of 54 major medical projects, including the Phase II Project of the Seventh Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. The number of Grade A tertiary hospitals in the city has increased from 18 to 33, with 2 new national regional medical centers and 17 new national key clinical specialties established.
