On December 18, 2025, the 2025 “Citizens Visit the Dongjiang River” activity, hosted by the Shenzhen Water Affairs Bureau and undertaken by the Shenzhen Dongjiang Water Source Project Management Office, was successfully held. More than 70 citizens and enterprise representatives participated in the activity, which built a bridge connecting water affairs practice and scientific and technological innovation through on-site visits, jointly boosting the high-quality development of water affairs in Shenzhen.

With the theme of “Unite Wisdom and Strength for the Dongjiang River Tour, Jointly Paint a New Blueprint for Water Affairs”, this activity focused on the core demand of empowering water affairs development with science and technology, and contributed to consolidating the water resource security barrier of Shenzhen. As the lifeline of water supply for Shenzhen, the Dongjiang Water Source Project accounts for more than one third of the city’s water diversion from outside the municipality every year. Over the past 20 years, it has delivered a total of more than 12.7 billion cubic meters of water to Shenzhen, serving as a pivotal project for ensuring residents’ water use and supporting urban development

On the day of the activity, the participants assembled and departed from the Water Source Building, and successively visited the Water Conservancy Scenic Area (Water Situation Education Base) at the water intake of the Dongjiang River, the Dongjiang Pumping Station, the Yonghu Pumping Station and the Songzikeng Reservoir, conducting a panoramic observation of the whole-chain management process of water resource intake, conveyance and storage. At the water intake of the Dongjiang River and the Water Situation Education Base, the participants visited the water source headstream and learned water conservation knowledge, deepening their understanding of the water situation. At the two major pumping stations (Dongjiang and Yonghu), the standardized management system and refined operation and maintenance processes enabled everyone to gain an in-depth insight into the operation philosophy of modern water affairs facilities. Upon arriving at the Songzikeng Reservoir, the participants visited the reservoir dam, and learned about the reservoir’s operation as well as the application scenarios of scientific and technological equipment such as grass-cutting robots and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) patrols.

This activity was not only a vivid practical lesson on water situation, but also a precise matchmaking session for the demands of water affairs and the strength of sci-tech innovation. The participating citizens and enterprise representatives all stated that the on-site visits had helped them gain a clearer understanding of the technical gaps and application scenarios in the water affairs sector, laying a solid foundation for identifying the direction of subsequent technological research and development and achievement transformation.

Moving forward, the Shenzhen water affairs system will continue to build a platform for government-enterprise collaboration, promote the in-depth integration of sci-tech innovation and water affairs management, enhance the capacity of water resource guarantee through sci-tech empowerment, and inject solid water-driven momentum into the sustainable economic and social development of Shenzhen.
