Shenzhen Citizens Step into Police Camps for a “Zero-Distance” Experience of Police Glory

On January 10, as the 6th Chinese People’s Police Day and the 40th 110 Publicity Day approached, the Shenzhen Public Security Bureau opened the gates of police camps in a tough yet joyful manner, hosting the 17th Police Camp Open Day. This year’s event featured special sessions organized by 27 public security sub-bureaus and police units across the city, with 114 grassroots police stations and teams setting up open venues, creating a peaceful and lively atmosphere on site.

In the morning of the same day, citizens came to visit the camps one after another at various event venues across the city. With the theme of “Meeting You and Me, Police-Citizen Zero Distance”, public security sub-bureaus, police units and grassroots stations carried out a rich variety of police-citizen interactive activities, including displays of police equipment, police skills performances, promotion of convenient WeChat services, publicity and education on safety precautions and 110-related knowledge, recruitment for juvenile police camps, and police-citizen liaison forums.

The Criminal Investigation Detachment of the Municipal Public Security Bureau attracted wide attention through two highlights: technology-enabled anti-fraud initiatives and police dog shows. Hardcore equipment such as armored vehicles and drones, combined with fun games, made anti-fraud publicity vivid and engaging. The Traffic Management Detachment invited citizens to participate in a “simulated drunk driving” experience to warn them of the dangers of driving under the influence. The Special Police Detachment sparked great enthusiasm among the audience by using drones to deliver prizes. The Futian Sub-bureau demonstrated the professional image of the police force through subjects such as shield and baton tactical drills and explosive detection by police dogs… A series of exciting activities kept visitors captivated.

“I brought my child to watch many police displays today, and it was truly shocking. The kid was excited throughout the whole process and also learned about all aspects of police work,” said Ms. Zhao, a citizen. Xiao Wu, a student from Shixia School, stated that the diverse safety precaution knowledge had broadened his horizons. “Communicating face-to-face with police officers and learning about their daily work is something that’s hard to gain from classrooms and textbooks.”

Since 2002, the Shenzhen Public Security Bureau has successfully held 17 sessions of the Police Camp Open Day. Evolving into an all-round, three-dimensional police-citizen carnival characterized by “interaction, communication, participation, experience, sharing and joy”, the event serves as a police-citizen forum for Shenzhen Public Security to listen to public opinions, gather public wisdom, understand public conditions, address public concerns and unite public sentiment. It has become Shenzhen Public Security’s most influential brand for police public relations development.
