Recently, the “2025 Bridge and Tunnel Development Technology Innovation Conference and Bridge & Tunnel Innovation Achievement Exhibition” kicked off in Guangzhou. At the event, the list of “Top 10 Most Beautiful Bridges of 2020-2025” was officially released, with the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Channel making the cut. In addition, the channel also took home the awards for Best Environmental Harmony, Best Cultural Creativity and Best Public Perception.
As a core transportation hub project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Channel stretches 24 kilometers in total, integrating bridges, islands, tunnels and underwater interchanges, among which the undersea tunnel is approximately 6.8 kilometers long. A national key project, the channel stands at the Pearl River Estuary, about 30 kilometers north of the Humen Bridge and 31 kilometers south of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. Serving as a vital transportation artery connecting the urban agglomerations on the east and west banks of the Pearl River Estuary, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Channel, together with the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, Nansha Bridge and Humen Bridge, forms the Greater Bay Area’s cross-sea and cross-river bridge and tunnel cluster.
The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Channel has already been honored with titles and awards including the International Tunneling and Underground Space Association’s (ITA) “50 Landmark Projects in Global Tunneling and Underground Works”, the International Bridge Conference’s “George Richardson Award”, the 2025 ITA Major Project of the Year Gold Award, and the 2025 FIDIC Award for Excellence in Project Implementation… This super project has achieved almost a “grand slam” of the top awards in the bridge engineering sector.
