According to Xinhua News Agency, Cambodian Minister of Information Neth Pheaktra stated on the 13th that Cambodia urges Thailand to immediately cease military operations against Cambodia and its civilian infrastructure.
Neth Pheaktra said that Thai forces dispatched two F-16 fighter jets to drop bombs on the morning of that day, destroying a hotel and two bridges in the border area of Pursat Province. He added that Thai troops have expanded the scope of attacks to Cambodian civilians and residential villages, and damaged civilian infrastructure.
Neth Pheaktra indicated that Thailand has repeatedly violated Cambodia’s sovereignty and undermined the ceasefire agreement through sustained military operations in Cambodian territory. Cambodia has taken appropriate measures to defend its territory and civilians while avoiding the escalation of the situation. Cambodia remains firmly committed to peace, dialogue and international law.
According to information released by Neth Pheaktra, as of December 12, the conflict has left 11 Cambodian civilians dead and 59 injured, with nearly 90,000 families (totaling approximately 300,000 people) displaced in five border provinces.
Earlier, Thai caretaker Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet confirmed that they had separately held phone talks with US President Donald Trump on the Thailand-Cambodia border conflict on the 12th. At noon on December 12 (US Eastern Time), Trump posted on social media that he had spoken with Anutin Charnvirakul and Hun Manet, and the leaders of the two countries agreed to a ceasefire starting that night and to resume the implementation of the previously reached peace agreement between the two countries.
On the morning of the 13th, Thai Ministry of Defense spokesperson Surasak Rounroengrom stated that Cambodian military forces continued to attack Thailand from the night of the 12th to the morning of the 13th.
Anutin posted on social media on the morning of the 13th (local time) that Thailand will continue to take military actions until it is convinced that its territory and people are no longer facing harm and threats.
Intense conflicts broke out again in the Thailand-Cambodia border area starting from December 7, with intense artillery fire heard in many places. Both sides accused each other of “firing first”.
