The Thematic Academic Seminar of the 17th Shenzhen Academic Annual Conference Held

On Dec 9, the 17th Shenzhen Academic Annual Conference’s seminar, themed “APEC New Opportunities & Win-win Open Strategy”, gathered experts to explore high-level opening-up, with key reports and research base inaugurations unveiled.

On December 9, the thematic academic seminar of the 17th Shenzhen Academic Annual Conference, themed “New APEC Opportunities and the Open Strategy of Mutual Benefit and Win-win Results”, was held. The event aimed to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speeches and instructions, vigorously carry forward the spirit of reform and opening-up and the special zone spirit, focus on new opportunities brought by APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation), and empower open development through academic research. Li Yihang, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Full-time Vice Chairman of Guangdong Provincial Federation of Social Sciences, and Zhang Ling, Member of the Standing Committee of Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee and Director of the Publicity Department, attended the conference.

The conference emphasized that adhering to open cooperation and mutual benefit and win-win results is an inevitable requirement for Chinese-style modernization. As an important window for China to unswervingly pursue the open strategy of mutual benefit and win-win results, hosting APEC meetings is a major opportunity for Shenzhen to serve national strategies and participate in global cooperation. The social science community should seize this opportunity, focus on cutting-edge issues to carry out systematic and academic research and interpretation, and provide solid theoretical support for expanding high-level opening-up; it should emphasize practical results, provide policy advice to empower practice, coordinate scientific research, form high-quality countermeasure suggestions in combination with cooperation needs from all aspects, and promote the transformation of research results into practical cooperation effects; it should tell good stories, promote exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations, interpret the Chinese path through academic research, and verify the Chinese governance with Shenzhen stories. It is hoped that with this academic annual conference as a link, consensus in the academic circle will be built, ideological synergy will be gathered, and social science wisdom and strength will be contributed to Shenzhen’s high-quality hosting of APEC meetings, accelerating the building of a modern international metropolis, continuously creating new advantages and achieving new breakthroughs.

The conference was hosted by the Municipal Party Committee Publicity Department, the Municipal Federation of Social Sciences, and Shenzhen Press Group. At the conference, the Report on the Development of Philosophy and Social Sciences in Shenzhen in 2025 was released, the new 2025 Shenzhen Blue Book series was launched, and the key research bases for humanities and social sciences in Shenzhen (2026-2028) were awarded plaques.

Academic exchange activities were also held at the conference. Li Xiangyang, Member of the Academic Division of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Huang Ping, President of the Hong Kong Academy of Chinese Studies, Zheng Yongnian, Dean of the Qianhai Institute of International Affairs, Guo Yuewen, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of Guangdong Academy of Social Sciences, Liu Chenyang, Director of the APEC Research Center of Nankai University, Gu Xueming, Dean of the Institute of Openness and Innovation Development of Shenzhen University, and Huang Jianwei, Associate Vice-President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, delivered keynote speeches.
