Tiechong Town Oyster Culture and Food Carnival Kicks Off – A 10-Day Feast Awaits Food Lovers

On Dec 12, Huidong Tiechong’s 10-day Oyster Culture & Food Carnival kicked off. It integrates oyster delicacies, cultural-tourism routes, project signings, and welfare, boosting consumption and agriculture-culture-tourism integration.

On December 12, the “Oyster Enjoyment · Taste of Tiechong” Huidong County Chi’an Oyster Culture and Food Carnival, together with the winter consumption promotion campaign, opened at Haozhaolou Wetland Park in Tiechong Town. This winter event, integrating food experiences, cultural performances, cultural and tourism promotion, and project signings, not only demonstrates the practical results of Tiechong Town’s “Millions of Projects” but also takes oysters as a medium to activate new momentum for the integration of agriculture, culture, and tourism. Lin Jinlai, Deputy County Mayor of Huidong County, Luo Weichun, Member of the Party Group of the Standing Committee of Huidong County People’s Congress, as well as relevant departments of Huidong County and local government officials attended the event.

At the opening ceremony, Lin Jinlai, Luo Weichun and others jointly touched the large screen to launch the event, marking the official start of the 10-day Huidong County Chi’an Oyster Culture and Food Carnival and winter consumption promotion campaign. In his speech, Lin Jinlai stated that Huidong is a coastal and mountainous city with unlimited potential. At the 10th Plenary Session of the 12th Municipal Party Committee, four key tasks for the “15th Five-Year Plan” were planned, one of which is to build the Renping Peninsula into a major platform for marine economic development, proposing to mobilize the whole city’s efforts to develop and construct the Renping Peninsula. The agricultural tourism development of the Renping Peninsula has ushered in significant development opportunities, and we will strive to create a number of distinctive, warm and memorable agriculture, culture and tourism brands.

The food experience area at the event site was extremely popular. The aroma of 28 kinds of oyster-based delicacies such as freshly roasted garlic oysters and crispy oyster omelets filled the air. Nine cooperative restaurants in Chi’an Village launched preferential activities simultaneously. The 10-day oyster-tasting feast for all citizens and tourists satisfied their taste buds greatly.

Fang Daping, an oyster farmer, said: “Our Chi’an Oyster Breeding Base is like a huge fish basket-shaped inner harbor. The waters are rich in plankton, which is particularly suitable for oyster farming, allowing oysters to forage freely in a stable water environment and develop the core quality of being ‘fresh, sweet, tender and smooth’. Every bite is backed by ecological advantages! Now our Chi’an oysters have evolved from traditional farming to over-farming, and then to the stage of ecological symbiosis and industrial upgrading. I believe our Chi’an oysters will get better and better and gain more and more advantages.”

As the core industry of Tiechong Town’s “One Village, One Product” initiative, Chi’an oysters are famous for their large size and sweet and fresh meat, relying on the unique ecological environment of the brackish water intersection in Kaizhouyang. With “tasting fresh oysters, wandering the wetland, and watching the sunset” as the core, the event connects high-quality cultural and tourism routes such as wetland bird watching and boat trips for shrimp fishing at Haozhaolou Wetland Park, cultural exploration in Ximei Ancient Village, and coastal cycling. It integrates scattered ecological and cultural resources into the “Heron Shadow Pastoral · Cycling in Kaizhou” beautiful countryside corridor, promoting rural tourism from “fragmentation” to “panoramization”. The event also promoted local mountain, sea, forest, farmland and oyster resources as well as key investment promotion projects on site, inviting high-quality enterprises to participate in cultural and tourism industry development.

Fang Daping, the oyster farmer, said: “This year is the best year in 19 years, with an overall steady growth, though there are differences among different breeding entities. Simply put, the overall income from Chi’an oysters has increased steadily this year. Over the years of oyster farming, the most core change is not ‘how much money we have earned’, but ‘life has become more stable and promising’. The sense of security, quality and happiness in life have all been substantially improved.”

At the opening ceremony, four key projects were successfully signed, including oyster raft upgrading and renovation, pecan industry cooperation, Haitang Courtyard Café, and potato production and sales cooperation, covering multiple fields such as ecological breeding, agriculture and forestry development, cultural and tourism supporting facilities, and agricultural product sales. The event also launched a variety of benefits for the public. From December 12, 2025 to February 28, 2026, citizens and tourists can participate in lucky draws through the “Huidong Shunxin Tour” mini-program to win winter gifts such as boat tour experiences at Haozhaolou Wetland Park and discounts on coastal hot springs. During the 10-day carnival, a series of activities such as parent-child beachcombing, oyster opening experiences, and ancient village exploration will be carried out successively to continuously release consumption potential and show the new development picture of Huidong featuring “prosperous industries, beautiful countryside and wealthy people”.
