The Transport Department of Hong Kong has announced that to further facilitate the travel of cross-border vehicles, all applications for Closed Road Permits for cross-border vehicles submitted starting from the 1st of next month will be granted a longer validity period. This is to better align with the validity period of individual cross-border quotas, with the maximum validity period extendable to 60 months. This will spare quota holders from having to renew their permits annually, thereby improving efficiency.
In addition, starting on the same day, the fees for the permits will also be adjusted based on the cost-recovery principle.
As for applications received on or before the 31st of this month, the validity period of the issued permits will remain at no more than 12 months, and fees will be charged at the current rate.
To streamline procedures, starting from the 1st of next month, cross-border private cars that have been approved to use more than one land control point will be issued a single permit covering all relevant control points.
