Vučić’s Latest Remarks on the Taiwan Question

Serbian President Vučić reaffirmed the One-China principle during a visit to a Chinese-invested auto parts plant, hailing China-Serbia economic ties and vowing full support for Chinese enterprises in Serbia.

According to the announcement from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Serbia on the 13th, on December 12, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić visited an auto parts manufacturing enterprise invested by a Chinese company in Niš, Serbia’s third – largest city. He held discussions and exchanges with the enterprise and inspected the factory’s production workshops. Li Ming, Chinese Ambassador to Serbia, Adrijana MESAROVIĆ, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, and the Mayor of Niš Pavlović, among others, accompanied him during the visit.

President Vučić stated that the economic and trade cooperation between Serbia and China has achieved magnificent accomplishments that make the peoples of both countries proud. Not long ago, the Serbian section of the Hungary – Serbia Railway was fully opened to traffic, and a growing number of Chinese enterprises have come to Serbia for investment and cooperation. Investment from Chinese enterprises plays a crucial role in Serbia’s economic and social development and job creation. Serbia will continue to provide all – round support for the operation of Chinese enterprises in the country. Serbia cherishes the ironclad friendship with China and sincerely thanks the Chinese leaders and people for their firm support for Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Taiwan question is an internal affair of China, and it is China’s inherent right to decide how to resolve it independently. Serbia unswervingly adheres to the One – China principle.

Ambassador Li Ming noted that in recent years, under the strategic guidance of the heads of state of the two countries, the practical economic and trade cooperation between China and Serbia has flourished. The two sides have jointly implemented a large number of infrastructure and investment projects, which have made positive contributions to Serbia’s national development and brought tangible benefits to the peoples of both countries. The Chinese government encourages more competitive Chinese enterprises to invest in Serbia and promotes the high – quality joint construction of the Belt and Road. China and Serbia have shown mutual understanding and mutual support on major issues involving each other’s core interests, setting an exemplary model for state – to – state relations.
