KTVs, cinemas, billiard halls… these public entertainment venues are ideal places for people to relax, but they also harbor potential fire risks. Recently, Zhuhai Fire Rescue Forces launched the “Winter Night Thunder” night inspection campaign and found that some venues had hidden dangers such as blocked evacuation routes and obstructed fire hydrants. On January 8, Zhuhai Fire Rescue Forces popularized the fire-causing characteristics, fire-fighting and escape skills of such venues to the general public, building a solid safety defense line.
It is understood that public entertainment venues have four major fire-causing characteristics. First, there are a large number of electrical equipment, such as lights and audio systems with high power, which are prone to fire due to circuit overload or short circuit. Second, a large amount of combustible materials are used in decoration, leading to rapid fire spread and strong smoke toxicity. Third, the venues are crowded with a high volume of pedestrian flow, and the dim lighting can easily cause panic in the event of a sudden fire. Fourth, some venues have hidden dangers such as blocked passages and unclosed fire doors, which further exacerbate fire risks.
Zhuhai Fire Rescue Forces suggest that the following precise measures should be taken when a small fire breaks out in entertainment venues: if equipment such as stage lights and audio systems catch fire, first cut off the power supply of the corresponding area, take the nearest dry powder fire extinguisher and aim it at the root of the fire source to put out the fire in accordance with the “lift, pull, hold and squeeze” steps, and it is strictly prohibited to splash water on live electrical equipment; if an oil pan catches fire in the snack area or bar counter of the venue, immediately turn off the gas valve, cover the pan tightly with a lid or wet cloth to smother the fire, and never douse it with water; if sofas, carpets, decorative fabrics and other items catch fire, priority should be given to putting out the fire with fire extinguishers, and at the same time, quickly remove flammable and explosive items nearby (such as alcoholic drinks and stage props).
It should be noted that public entertainment venues are crowded. When fighting a fire, people should remind those around to keep clear. If the fire is not under control within one minute, evacuate immediately and call the 119 emergency number. The following skills should be mastered during evacuation and escape: upon entering the venue, first locate the emergency exits, remember the principle of “enter on the right and exit on the left” and pay attention to evacuation signs; when thick smoke comes, cover your mouth and nose with a wet towel, bend down and move forward in a low posture to avoid inhaling toxic fumes; do not take the elevator, follow the guidance of staff, avoid crowding and countercurrent evacuation to prevent stampede accidents; if your clothes catch fire, do not run around, roll on the spot to extinguish the flames.
Zhuhai Fire Rescue Forces solemnly remind that venue operators should regularly inspect and eliminate hidden dangers to ensure that fire-fighting facilities are intact and passages are unobstructed; members of the public can call 12345 to report any hidden fire dangers they discover.
