Dental Health Popularization Activity Held in Shahu Community, Bilin Subdistrict, Pingshan District

To help young children establish a scientific concept of oral health and develop good teeth-care habits, the Party-Masses Service Center of Shahu Community recently joined hands with a caring dental clinic in the district to launch a children’s oral health science popularization activity themed Little Dental Health Guardians at Mingyue Kindergarten. Combining interesting classroom teaching with hands-on practice, the activity offered a vivid and practical “compulsory dental care lesson” to more than 60 children aged 3 to 6 in the kindergarten.

“Kids, do you know what teeth are used for? How do cavities form?” At the event, the medical team from the dental clinic, taking into account the characteristics of young children’s concrete thinking, turned abstract oral health knowledge into fun stories with the help of visual teaching aids such as cartoon PPTs and tooth models. The doctors explained knowledge step by step in plain and easy-to-understand language, covering core teeth-care points including “the functions of teeth”, “the causes of dental caries”, as well as “brushing teeth in the morning and evening, cutting down on sweet food, and rinsing mouths after meals”. Interactive games such as Dental Health Knowledge Q&A and Fight Against Cavities were also interspersed in the session. The children raised their hands actively to answer questions, creating a warm and lively atmosphere at the scene.

Moving on to the hands-on practice session, the doctors held tooth models to demonstrate the correct tooth-brushing method step by step, elaborating on the key movements of the Bass brushing technique. They emphasized that teeth brushing should last no less than two minutes, with special attention paid to cleaning the interdental spaces, gums and other areas where food residues tend to remain. Afterwards, the children picked up small toothbrushes and practiced brushing earnestly with the tooth models. Doctors and social workers provided one-on-one guidance on site and corrected irregular brushing movements in a timely manner. Each child was also given a small hourglass as a gift to help them visually grasp the proper brushing duration.

This activity has raised young children’s awareness of dental care and their practical teeth-brushing skills, laying a solid foundation for building a strong defense line for children’s oral health. Going forward, Shahu Community will continue to link up with medical resources in the district, and carry out more targeted and diversified health science popularization activities for the key service groups of the elderly and the young. It will build a health service bridge integrating “community + medical institutions + schools + families”, rooting health concepts in the community and bringing health benefits to thousands of households.
